The fifth edition of BIG Festival, the largest independent games festival of Latin America and one of the top three in the world, is coming soon. Until April 23 rd, independent game developers from all around the globe can already submit their creations to compete for the main prize and international recognition. BIG Festival 2017 will take place in São Paulo, Brazil, at Centro Cultural São Paulo, from June 24 th to July 2 nd. The event’s Selection Committee will analyze the submitted games, and the finalists will compete in several different categories, such as Best Game, Best Gameplay, Best Sound, Best Art, Best Narrative and others. The attending public will be able to play every one of them in a free exhibition with PCs, tablets, smartphones, consoles, and even games in Virtual and Augmented Reality.

Last year, the event was a huge success and received 745 submissions from 48 different countries. The jury awarded Horizon Chase, from the Brazilian developer Aquiris Game Studio, with the Best Game award. The jury was formed by Antoine Routon, from Square Enix; Daniel Trocóli, from Google; Julien Villedieu, from France National Videogames Syndicate; Karim Farghaly, from Bandai Namco; Melinda Montaño, from Kongregate; and Reginaldo Valadares, from Rovio.

BIG Festival is not only an entertainment event as it offers a series of attractions comprised of lectures, keynotes, business rounds, pitches, and presentations, with the presence of important players of the international industry. Among them are Mike Foster, from Sony; Sam Carslyle, from Microsoft, as well as representatives from companies such as Fun Academy, Vungle and Execution labs.

To exemplify the importance of the event, in 2016 the BIG Business Forum, which takes place simultaneously within the festival, had the presence of more than 2400 professionals of the industry who set up more than 1500 business meetings between Brazilian developers and potential buyers from all around the world.
