TOUGH CODED is a Live Videogame Experience, executed by Little Nando, Teenage Mutant Videogame Jockey. We all know what DJs are. What VJs are, but, what the heck is a Videogame Jockey? A video game jockey is basically a Game Master. The all-mighty controller of the experience, who designs the game as you play.

Recently it was WINNER as BEST EXPERIMENTAL GAME and BEST PRESENTATION at the SENSE OF WONDER NIGHT 2015.

How does it work? Tough Coded: Live is basically a threeplayer game, where two random players in a party hook up to compete on a head-tohead death shmup, level-designed live by Little Nando, Videogame jockey. Levels are designed live as challengers play. Little Nando generates power-ups, enemies, changes game palette, speed of the game, scenarios.. all to the beat of live music, generally each match lasting the length of a song, which can be played by himself or any invited DJ.

How can you play? For now, you can only reach Tough Coded: Live on exclusive Little Nando performances, generally held on indie videogame festivals around the world (big and small).

Tough Coded has been presented at IndieCade 2013 alongside Chipzel (Los Angeles, USA), ExpoEva (Argentina), Comic Con (Argentina) and Tecnopolis (Argentina).

“I used to be a VJ, for JunkieXL, Hernan Cattaneo… Creamfields, that kinda thing. I always thought that VJing was kind of a game”says Little Nando. “I wanted to bring all my knowledge of VJing live to gamers and try to make them feel exactly what I felt when working as VJ in clubs. I have a theory that videogame jockeying indie games is a GREAT way of getting your game out there, be played, and be tested by lots of people. I also believe that this could be a whole new category, that it could pretty much become a whole new industry. I mean, wouldnt somebody pay to go play a game by Jonathan Blow or Phil Fish, videogame-jockeyed LIVE by the creators themselves? That got me thinking. I also think that making parties for your half-done games is a great way to fund their completion, desktop versions and so forth. I want to install this concept and help it make a reality…”

Tough Coded: Live is actually the live version of a RPG/ shmup desktop game currently in development. Also in development there is an iOS version.

If you’d like to have Little Nando showcase the game anywhere in the globe you can contact him here.
