Mobile gaming rang in the new year with a strong first quarter, generating a 30% increase compared with Q4 2015. One country in particular, China, represented 31% of the total installs of games made with Unity.

Android retained its status as the global leader in Q1 2016 representing 81% of mobile game installs while iOS maintained 17%.

Kitkat (4.4) and Lollipop (5.0 and 5.1) account for 73% of all Android game installs.

iOS shows more consolidation with 72% of installs occurring on devices running iOS 9.0 (released September 2015) or later, and 91% occur on devices running 8.0 (released at September 2014) or later.

China was a powerhouse in the first quarter of 2016 eclipsing the US in number of game installs. At 31% of all game installs worldwide, it generated more installs than the second through fifth countries combined

The top 5 countries accounted for 53% of total global game installs, while approximately 65% of game installs occur in the top 10 countries.

Another interesting trend surfaced when looking at game installs by region, as the popularity of Android and iOS devices showed significant variations. 60% of all iOS game installs occurred in three countries: China, United States and Japan; while the top 10 countries represent 77% of all iOS game installs .

By comparison, Android installs show a greater geographical dispersion. The top three countries (China, United States, and Brazil) only account for 45% of total game installs, and only 64% of game installs occur in the top 10 countries.
